A Really Tough Job!
I am making plans to get to Sicily within four weeks. Yay!
The weather there has been terrible. Floods have hit Messina (20 dead) and Palermo.
Yet the Sicilian spirit is such that they will pick up the pieces and carry on.
I will visit Manfredi Barbera in Trapani and watch the olive harvest. I will choose the right blend of olives to use for next year.
This means that I will sample about 20 varietals of olives and he and I will select the exact right flavor that we want.
I will then move to Sciacca and do the same thing with Villa Reale…select from the succulent vegetables there and put together delectable delights.
From there, I will head up to Etna and select the oranges, lemons and fruit for all our jams and marmalades.
Then I will head into Palermo and choose all the cultural items that we need.
(Sigh)…what a tough job.
(wink,wink)
I suppose that I probably have to eat some good food there too….
Oh well…someone has to do it…mind as well be me!
Alfred, Sounds like a fantastic trip. My husband and I leave for five weeks in Sicily and Rome on November 10. We’ll be based in Sciacca, with travel all over the island. If you have a free evening in the Sciacca area, I’d love to cook for you. We’ll be in Sciacca from November 12 and fly to Rome on December 10.
Have a great trip!
I’ll be ther. Send me your number and I will call
Alfred, my cell number is 267.679.6415. I will also have my netbook with me in Italy and expect (hope) to have email access - DArnhold@comcast.net.
Let me know! We’d be glad to entertain a fellow Sicilia lover. My husband is half Italian - Neapolitan - but we’ve become addicted to Sicily.
