Day Two…The Sicilian Morning
I love the crisp sunny November mornings in Sicily.
The sun is bright..but not hot. I can describe it as “light”…very light in the morning.
Etna is covered with snow, and the view as I pass it by is breathtaking. A white-capped giant amongst the population.
First thing I did was go food shopping. I go to a big market by the villa named Centro Squalo. I picked up fresh pears, oranges, bananas, some eggs and butter, some ham and cheese, milk…enough stuff to make lunches for a few days. Spent 46 euro on shopping.
The prices are going down here too as the Sicilian economy is also hurting.
Afterward, I stopped by Cafe Victoria, a little coffee bar for an espresso and a brioche for breakfast.
I sat outside and let the sun heal me.
I am still jet lagged and tired…will be like this another day or two. However, breathing that Sicilian air while enjoying that espresso in the sun is just what the doctor ordered.
Tonight I am going to find “stocco”…a regional fish soup that heals my soul.
I am connected to the world though. I have 2 cell phones (one American, one Italian), a home phone, and of course my Italian computer (all instructions are in Italian). So later on I will call into America and see what’s going on.
In the meantime, thank God I am in Sicily. I think I have said that 1000 times already!
